A New Year. It will be full of surprises. I hope I get the chance to sleep at some point. Apparently today is Friday. It feels like Monday. I have so much to do it feels endless.
This I've been meaning to share. The unmakeable book that was turned down by one publisher after another. Yet another life lesson about never giving up...
One of the more amazing things I have found in the past couple of days is no layout. A collection of independent fashion and art magazines that have been assembled for your intensive browsing pleasure. There is something for everyone, men's fashion and women's, disturbing and inspiring, furious and peaceful. I fixated immediately on "I love you." It's stunning. I love the layouts, the quotes, the editorials. I want this magazine in my home. Here are some excerpts from their Princess edition

Who are they from?! I thought maybe they were a present from Galstern, but I was wrong. I love, love, love them. I jumped up and down a bit when I opened the package, and I pride myself on not being overly girly. So you got the best of me whomever you are.

In other news, I have been desperately taking pictures the past few days. The lighting however, has been dark and uncooperative (see above) and I have come to the realization that I desperately need a "real" camera. BUT I have three new shirts, a navy blue version of my gray origami skirt, and a black version of my asymmetrical hooded sweater. I have more designs drawn up too. Look at me be productive.
Do something useful with your life. Place less value on worldly pleasures.
Vanitas was a type of still life art that flourished in the the Netherlands in the early 17th century. It dwelled on the concepts of the inevivibility of death, and the transience and vanity of earthly achievements and pleasures. Rooted as a potential reaction to the the culture of conspicuous consumption that occured during the period, I suppose that it is only reasonable that it was recently revisited in a gorgeous exhibition at All Visiual Arts. Of course I stumbled onto this right when I am contemplating another move, and facing the concept of packing up vast arrays of personal items and transporting them across the country. Despite being a clothing designer and therefore tied to all things frivolous, I occasionally just want to rid myself of everything I own.
My newest object of lust is from fellow Etsy seller Galstern. Check the shop for unique hand printed tights. On my list are Eagle, Goldfish, and Leg-Jewel. I love the fact that they were inspired by patterns found in nature, and then made them into these- are so cool-they-make-your-eyes-bleed fashion.
So besides the enormous sales, heavy traffic, and lovely e-mails that some with being feature seller. Two other things happened that I am very excited about.
1) Bloodmilk, whose jewelry I adore contacted me for a possible trade.
2) AMictlan did as well! I am unfamiliar with their work, but human teeth ring?? Yes.
If it's not covered in rhinestones, my jewelry tastes tend toward the darker side of things. As soon my body quits being a big cry baby (I think I got sick due to lack of sleep and stress over the feature seller thing) I will contact them. Hopefully they have not come to their senses by then.
Today's discoveries were of the multiple legged nature. I was taking pictures of some of the flowers in the field, and in darted an elusive friend. This was the first hummingbird moth I've seen all year. A handsome fellow.
My husband upped the ante with this fabulous wonder found inching (read: lumbering) across the road. Handsome, terrifying, and completely harmless. He was as long as my hand.
Now I shall inflict upon you a bit of Entomology nerdiness. They are called Hickory Horned Devils, and after burrowing in the ground to pupate, they turn into these lovelies:
The dapper Royal Moth looks like he could pick me up and carry me away. After spending two seasons underground, they live a brief, but gallant two weeks as adults. Hopefully he will come back and visit when it is time. I will make him a top hat.
